Sleep Patterns

We have tried to keep a normal sleep pattern since we moved here but then I guess we have to decide what normal really is.  For us, living in the states normal was going to bed by 11:00, 11:30 at the latest on weeknights.  Here, we have trouble going to bed before midnight every night.  Tonight will be no exception.

We had our first experience eating in a local family's home.  It was a great experience, the family was amazing, and we laughed a lot - mostly at our poor attempts to speak arabic.  But here is how the night went and the reasons why we won't be going to bed early tonight:

8:00 - arrive at the house and visit in the parlor (reception area)

8:30 - eat dinner in the dining room - a huge spread: three kinds of salad, roast chicken, a rice dish on a plate the size of Texas, soup, relish tray, pasta, yogurt, etc.

9:30 - move back into the parlor for visiting, tea, and dessert #1

10:00 - more visiting and fresh fruit

10:30 - The wrap up  - arabic coffee (two parts sugar, one part coffee) and dessert #2

10:45 - the drive back home

We really enjoyed the experience AND the caffeine buzz.  So what now?  I'll check to see if Daniel is up for a jog around the block.

Interesting to hear about all of their customs and how you are adjusting. The pics of the dead sea are gorgeous. I'd love to hear more about what you are doing out there and who you are dining with...are they christians? kerryboulware@hotmail.com

I need a lot more detail on dinner. I love to eat - and local food in far away places is way interesting. Hummus? How was the chicken prepared?

It sounds great.
