Family Activities

Daniel and I took a trip down to the Dead Sea last weekend and on the way, we were able to observe the typical things families here do on their day off, like a family picnic.  But it's not the kind of picnic that we are used to.  For one thing, the food is obviously different.  They don't pack up the potato salad and fried chicken or sandwiches.  They bring their portable stoves and cook up some kabobs.  And I'm sure they bring pitchers of hot tea and fresh mint.  Also, they don't drive off into the national park or local forest to find a nice grassy area to take in the beauty of nature.  There aren't a lot of forests here so instead, they just pull off the side of the road and find an empty space (even the median is a good spot if it's empty).  The road on the way to the Dead Sea was full of families eating and playing soccer and looked like a lot of fun, especially when you could take a roadside camel ride.
