Power Outage

Last week our temperatures dropped again. We saw snow for the first time this winter - huge fluffy flakes of snow. Of course, it wasn't cold enough for the snow to stick, but it was still beautiful.

Maybe it's because of the cold, people using their electric heaters, etc, that during weather weeks like this one, we tend to have several power outages. Sometimes they last for an hour, sometimes 3 or 4. And it's very random; only half of the apartments in our building lose power, and half of the the apartments in the other buildings on our street. We still don't know how things work here all the time, like WHY we lose power and some people don't, WHEN it will come back on, WHO we can call to fix it, etc.

The first night we lost power this week was after Noah went to bed. We waited for a while before we went into his room to add a blanket to his bed and make sure he was nice and covered. We usually run an electric heater in his room all night during the winter. Without that, it can get seriously cold in there.

The next day, we lost power while Noah was still up, and before dinner time. We all huddled in the kitchen where we could get some warmth from the gas oven, layered Noah, and had dinner by candlelight. He liked the flashlight shows we put on to entertain him, liked trying to chase the light around the walls. But we were very thankful that 4 hours later, the lights flickered and we could have heat again.

We thought we'd take a picture of Noah at dinner - he looked too funny with his mismatched layers and his panda hat.
